Today I decided to observe Ms. Leamer's Social Studies classes and once again I sat in on Mrs. Moore's French II class. Even though Social Studies is not my content area I am enjoying my observation and am trying to see as many teaching styles as possible. For her first class of the day I observed her as she taught one on one in her Psychology class. Psychology is one of the content areas that I plan on teaching therefore it was very interesting and informative to watch Psychology being taught. Her second class was US History which was devoted to reviewing for their upcoming unit test. She presented a very interesting teaching technique, which I definitely plan on using in the future. She had made up a History review version of the game Jeopardy. After class I asked her if she was given a template to work from and she explained that she did not but went on to tell me that she made up the template during her internship year.
After the US History course with the Jeopardy game Ms. Leamer taught Alaska Studies. For this class they were working on peer reviewing each other's articles concerning elder interviews. After that the students had a homeroom period/study hall.
After homeroom was lunch where I met up with Ashley in the cafeteria where we discussed the progression of our days. She told me that she was given the chance to substitute for Mr. Moore on account of him taking a sick day. She had an excellent time teaching the 6th grade English class and had to scramble to create a playlist on her Ipod. As I was explaining in my blog yesterday that this school district follows the PEAK philosophy. This philosophy has a strong musical component. It has been observed in studies that music and memory/recall of information is enhanced by songs/background music.
Ashley and I decided to eat the hot lunch today instead of eating the sandwiches that we brought from home. The hot lunches here are so gorgeous that I decided to take a picture of it. When I told others of my amazement, they were dumbfounded. That's what they had been experiencing their whole life.

After lunch I did my daily observation of the French II class. Today I started making up a lesson plan that I plan on teaching the class on Friday. I already talked with Mrs. Moore and she asked if that was something I would be interested in. I told her "Absolutely," and tonight I plan on solidifying my plans for a lesson plan to present.
After Mrs. Moore's class I went back to Ms. Leamer's class and this time she was teaching 8th grade history. This class was a lot of fun to observe. For this she used a power point that was filled with beautiful graphics to go along with her lesson. After the class I asked her if she had made up the power point because it looked really specific. She then passed along an important piece of advice to consider while teaching "Don't reinvent the wheel." In other words, if something was done well originally, then there is no sense in doing it again. The last class of the day was "Personal Finance." Today this class had a few discussions and watched some TED talk lectures.
